Volunteer
Advocate
Purpose: To provide emotional support and information to survivors of sexual assault and to their family members and friends and to inform others about the issue of sexual assault.
Major Responsibilities:
- Regard all information about survivors as completely confidential
- Staff 24-hour crisis line
- Accompany survivors of sexual assault to the hospital providing support and information during the medical exam
- Provide support and information to survivors’ family members and friends
- Keep accurate records and return report forms within 24 hours of shift
- Sign up for at least 2 shifts per month
- Call the work day following a hotline or hospital accompaniment to provide information to STSM and check in with staff
Qualifications:
- Tolerant and non-judgmental of others’ lifestyles and values
- At least 18 years old
- Successful completion of Volunteer Advocate Training
- Reliable, dependable, and available during required times
- Good listener, caring, supportive, patient, and understanding
- Must have reliable transportation
- Able to set boundaries
- Self-confident about handling emergencies and stressful situations

- Attend and participate in the volunteer advocate training program
- Attend volunteer in-service training meetings
- Be on call at least two shifts a month
- Be responsible for scheduling shifts
- Remain with Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands as a volunteer for at least one year

Speakers Bureau
Purpose: To provide information to community and civic organizations about the issue of sexual assault and prevention education to male and female groups on behalf of Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM).
Major Responsibilities:
- Regard all information about services provided to individuals at STSM as completely confidential
- Facilitate STSM prevention curriculum to youth in local schools, community groups, churches, etc., as scheduled by STSM
- Attend agency fairs and volunteer fairs to answer questions related to sexual assault and STSM
- Represent STSM and the various services provided by the agency in a comprehensive and professional manner
- Keep accurate records and documentation of community events
Qualifications:
- Tolerant and non-judgmental of others’ lifestyles and values
- At least 18 years old
- Reliable, dependable, and available during required times
- Confident communicator and presenter
- Must have reliable transportation
- Self-confident about handling stressful situations
- Able to attend and complete Speaker’s Bureau training

Office Volunteer
Purpose: To provide assistance to the staff at Sexual Trauma Services in their daily work routines. To refer inquiries to the appropriate staff members and assist in the smooth operation of the agency on a day-to-day basis.
Major Responsibilities:
- Regard all information about agency services provided to the community as completely confidential
- Assist callers by triaging calls and assuring that calls and messages are directed to the correct staff members.
- Assist the agency in providing accurate and comprehensive information to the community through verbal, written and non-interactive media.
- Assist staff with upcoming projects which may include: preparation for training sessions, preparation for speaking engagements, preparing materials to be distributed at meetings, preparing reports for grant requirements, creating new materials to promote agency services.
- Other duties as determined by project supervisor.

Group Facilitator
Purpose: To provide therapeutic, psycho-educational, and support group services to survivors and their families. Groups are designed to serve varied populations including female and male survivors, adolescents, children, couples, and their families.
Major Responsibilities:
- Attending to, describing, acknowledging, confronting, understanding, and responding empathically to group members behavior, statements, and themes
- Maintaining group focus
- Giving and receiving feedback in group setting
- Eliciting information from and imparting information to group members
Qualifications:
- Licensed professional and/or students currently enrolled in graduate program in counselor education, social work, psychology, or other closely related disciplines
- Masters-level social workers, psychologists, and counselors
- Reliable, dependable, and self-confident about handling stressful situations
- Must have reliable transportation

Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Facilitator
Purpose: To train adults to recognize, prevent, and react responsibly to situations of child sexual abuse by facilitating the Stewards of Children program to community and civic organizations on behalf of Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM).
Major Responsibilities:
- On behalf of STSM, attend and fully participate in a facilitator training for the Darkness to Light Stewards of Children program in whatever location STSM deems appropriate (STSM will pay for training).
- Facilitate at least four Stewards of Children trainings every year to community groups, churches, and other organizations as scheduled by STSM.
- Keep accurate records and documentation of presentations and report timely to STSM staff about trainings conducted.
Qualifications:
- Tolerant and non-judgmental of others’ lifestyles and values.
- Confident communicator and presenter.
- Able to attend and complete Stewards of Children training program.
- Experience working in the field of child advocacy, child sexual abuse, public health, or social work a plus.
- Reliable, dependable, and available during required times.
- Must have reliable transportation.

- Successfully complete Stewards of Children training.
- Attend at least one volunteer in-service training per year.
- Schedule with STSM Education staff at least four presentations per year.
- Remain with STSM as a Stewards of Children program volunteer for at least one year. (If a contracted volunteer does not remain with the agency for at least a year and sign up for the allotted presentations, he/she may be responsible for reimbursing the agency for the costs of facilitator training and any other expenses incurred.)
